Catholic health system Bon Secours will support doctors who conduct medically necessary abortions, according to a letter sent last week from its parent company.
The decision contrasts the position of other Catholic and religious-based health systems that do not allow or discourage such procedures, one physician said.
In all 50 states, it is legal to conduct an abortion when the health of the mother is at serious risk.
