“The mission of NNEC is to improve the quality of life in our communities.  The entire staff and your Board of Directors pledge that we will do this to the best of our ability,” said Hunter Greenlaw, chairman of the board of directors. “On behalf of your directors, we thank you for the privilege of serving you. We meet monthly to review financials, set policy, and develop strategic planning.”
Also at the Annual Meeting, Brad Hicks, president and CEO, provided an update on the co-op’s challenges and successes from 2023, which included:
  • Rising demand for the power grid to power advancements like AI, electric vehicles, and more
  • Enacting a capital retirement to its members totaling more than $800,000
  • Maintaining the co-op’s excellent reliability rate of over 99%
“The energy industry is undergoing rapid change, with growing demands that I’ve never seen before in my 30-year career,” said Hicks. “We face significant challenges, including the need for a diversified energy portfolio, including renewable sources, and most importantly, adequate base-load capacity to ensure and protect the reliability of our nation’s power grid.”
He noted that the co-op is progressing on the continued mission to improve the quality of life in our communities.
  • Installed a new power transformer at Comorn substation to support growing demand in the area
  • Employees volunteering over 600 hours in our communities, and the co-op investing and leveraging over $10,000 in support of local non-profits and organizations, including the Healthy Harvest Food Bank and Rappahannock Community College.
  • Completion of several reconductoring projects, increasing lines’ reliability and available capacity.
  • Held our first Bright Futures Fun(d) Run in support Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library funding thousands of books for hundreds of local children. The second annual fun run will be held on Friday, June 7. Details are available at www.nnec.coop/run
“Thank you for your ongoing support and participation in our cooperative. Together, we are powering our community towards a brighter, more sustainable future,” said Hicks.
