Virginia has a green light from the administration of President Joe Biden to use $1.48 billion in federal infrastructure funding to extend high-speed internet access to more than 133,000 unserved locations.
Currently about 87% of the state has access to high-speed internet service, but JLARC estimates that about 392,000 locations remain unserved. Most of those locations are in rural areas of Southside and the Shenandoah Valley, but they also include pockets in more unlikely places, such as Loudoun County and tidal Virginia localities on the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula.
