RICHMOND, VA — Governor Abigail Spanberger finalized her action on the 1,100 bills sent to her desk during the 2026 General Assembly Session.

The Governor signed legislation into law to address high costs for families, expand economic opportunity for Virginians, keep families and students safe, and create a steady business climate for companies of all sizes.

“Thank you to the legislators and leaders in the General Assembly who worked this session with a clear focus on contending with the high costs squeezing families and strengthening our economy. It is because of their hard work — over multiple years — that we have been able to deliver for our fellow Virginians,” said Governor Abigail Spanberger. “I began 2026 with one overarching goal: finding commonsense solutions to address Virginia’s affordability crisis. Over the last 30 days, I carefully reviewed every bill sent to my desk. I’ve seen — and signed — dozens of bipartisan bills to address high costs across the board — particularly in healthcare, housing, and energy.”

Governor Spanberger continued, “I’m proud of our work to tackle the biggest challenges facing Virginia families, and I look forward to thoughtfully implementing these solutions while continuing to work with both Democrats and Republicans to save Virginians money.”

Over the last 30 days, Governor Spanberger reviewed and signed dozens of bills focused on making housing, healthcare, and energy more affordable for Virginians. The Governor signed bills into law to crack down on middlemen driving up prescription drug prices, protect Virginia families from increased energy costs, and increase the supply of housing that Virginians can afford to rent or buy. More than 75 percent of her affordability agenda received support from both Democratic and Republican lawmakers.

Spanberger continued, “Building a stronger Commonwealth also means creating a thriving economy. From my first day in office, I have focused on creating a stable business environment amid the economic uncertainty and volatility coming out of Washington. Virginia can and must offer companies the certainty they need to grow — and Virginia workers the opportunities they need to build steady careers. I’ve signed bipartisan legislation to connect more Virginians with good-paying jobs, accelerate business investment in our Commonwealth, and secure stronger wages for Virginians. We’ve proven we can be both pro-worker and pro-business — and I look forward to continuing our mission to make Virginia the best state for business and the best state for working families.”

Governor Spanberger signed legislation into law to accelerate $7.1 billion in capital investment in Virginia, boost workforce training and apprenticeships, and raise Virginia’s wage to $15 per hour — an action supported by nearly 80 percent of Virginians.

Spanberger added, “Finally, and most importantly, we must make sure our next generation is set up for success — whether they enter straight into the workforce, pursue an apprenticeship, join the military, or attend a community college or four-year university. During the 2026 General Assembly session, I was encouraged to see so many bills to strengthen Virginia schools pass with broad bipartisan support. Over the next four years, I will continue to work with anyone who is serious about delivering for parents, schools, and students.”

The Governor signed dozens of bipartisan bills to strengthen schools, make sure students are set up for long-term success, and keep kids safe and healthy both in and out of the classroom. Additional legislation the Governor signed into law will help keep Virginia students safe by helping teachers identify student mental health challenges, expanding extracurricular programs to help reduce youth violence, and modernizing internet safety education.
