Respiratory illness activity in Virginia is considered high and trending upward, according to data the Virginia Department of Health released Tuesday. But the amount of illness here is lower than in other states, where influenza is causing hospitals to fill.

Last week, nearly one in four patients visiting an emergency room in Virginia had a respiratory virus.

Patients with influenza accounted for 10% of all emergency room visits. Less than 1% of patients were diagnosed with COVID-19 or RSV.
