FREDERICKSBURG – A project to improve safety at the Route 360 (Richmond Road) and Route 624 (Newland Road) intersection in Richmond County will be under construction starting in April 2026.
The $2.8 million project will make several improvements at the intersection to reduce the risk of vehicle paths overlapping, resulting in a crash:
- New right turn lane from Route 360 westbound onto Newland Road
- New crossover for Route 360 westbound traffic to U-turn and travel east on Route 360 eastbound, toward the Town of Warsaw. This crossover will be built east of the existing crossover at Route 360 and Newland Road.
- Signs will prohibit Route 360 westbound traffic from using the existing Newland Road intersection crossover to turn left and U-turn onto eastbound Route 360.
- West of the Route 360 and Newland Road intersection, a crossover will be closed.
Construction will be complete by September 11, 2026.
Travelers can expect periodic lane closures outside of peak travel times, such as the morning and evening commuter rush. Watch for crews and equipment operating in the work zone and stay alert for temporary traffic patterns.
Starting the week of Monday, March 23, travelers can expect to see early mobilization activities for the project, such as the installation of work zone signs, which will remain covered until construction begins in April.
Message boards will be posted near the intersection to alert travelers to upcoming construction activity.
This project is funded through Virginia’s SMART SCALE program.
The project contractor is Posillico, Inc.
