The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Richmond Field Office is investigating two deaths in Essex County.
Officers responding to a 911 call reporting a shooting at a residence in the 27300 block of Tidewater Trail found two deceased individuals inside. Each was suffering from a gunshot wound. Police recovered two firearms from inside the residence.
Police have identified the victims as 66 year old Michael K. Lyell and 59 year old Denise J. Lyell, both of Dunnsville, Va.
Both bodies were transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Richmond for examination and autopsy.
According to police, at this stage of the ongoing criminal investigation there does not appear to be any threat to public safety in connection with this incident.
