Officials with the Transportation Security Administration said the agency on Wednesday prevented a Glen Allen man from boarding a plane with a loaded handgun at Richmond International Airport.

The handgun, a 9 mm loaded with 15 bullets, was stowed in a carry-on bag and detected by an X-ray machine at a security checkpoint, officials said. The firearm was removed by the Richmond Airport Police, and the man was cited on a weapons charge.

According to figures released by the TSA, the administration has detected 105 firearms at Richmond International Airport checkpoints since 2018, including 13 this year.
