The majority of transgender high school athletes in Virginia won’t be affected by the new Virginia High School League transgender participation policy.

On Monday, the VHSL reversed its policy on transgender athlete participation, complying with President Donald Trump’s executive order to limit competition in girls’ sports to students assigned female at birth only. The policy is effective immediately.

Only trans girls will be affected by the new VHSL policy, VHSL Executive Director Billy Haun said. Trans boys will still be allowed to compete.
