The Middle Peninsula-Northern Neck Community Services Board’s (MPNN CSB) Prevention, Health and Wellness Division is pleased to announce that they have been awarded a $159,000 Three-Year Grant Award from the Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth Foundation starting July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2027. The MPNN CSB is one of 61 organizations and 15 CSBs throughout Virginia to receive this grant award.

In partnership with Superintendents and Middle School Principals from Gloucester, King William, King and Queen, Lancaster, Middlesex, Northumberland and Westmoreland Counties, Middle School Youth will have the opportunity to be part of the Botvin LifeSkills Training Program (LST). This 15-Week, Exemplary Program has been selected for prevention excellence by the US Department of Education, American Medical Association, Office of National Drug Control Policy, American Psychological Association and Center for Substance Abuse Prevention.

Ms. Matteo-Kerney, the MPNN CSB Director of Program Planning, Development and Prevention Services, the grant writer, shared, “LST provides youth with positive ways to navigate the enormous life challenges that they are experiencing by strengthening self-management skills, social skills, and drug resistance skills. LST is proven to cut alcohol use by up to 60%, drug use by up to 75%, violence by up to 50% and tobacco use by up to 87%.
