On Tuesday, November 19th, 2024, at 8:05pm, local law enforcement responded to the 2400 block of Browns Store Rd for a subject that was shot. Upon arrival, a male victim was found in the house with a gunshot wound. Family members and law enforcement gave first aid to the victim until EMS arrived. The victim was airlifted to a Richmond area hospital.
During the investigation, Desmond Wiggins, 18, of Lottsburg, was arrested and charged with 2 Felonies: Maliciously Shoot into an occupied vehicle and Possession of an Auto Sear/Trigger Activator. He was also charged with 3 Misdemeanors: Possession of a Concealed Weapon-Firearm, Reckless Handling of a Firearm and Obstruction of Justice. Wiggins is held with no bond pending an arraignment on Monday, November 25, in Northumberland County General District Court. The incident remains under investigation.

On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, Northumberland 911 Center received a report of a house on fire in the 900 block of Bay Quarter Drive in Heathsville. First arrival Fire and EMS found heavy smoke a fire conditions. One person was reported to still be inside the residence. Fire crews made an aggressive interior attack of the fire and found the victim deceased. Virginia State Police responded and is investigating the cause of the fire and death of the victim. The deceased is believed to be the home owner.
