John Adams has stepped down suddenly as president of Virginia Military Institute’s Board of Visitors, according to the school.
Bill Wyatt, secretary of the board and VMI’s executive officer, said in a statement Friday to VMI faculty and staff that Adams had resigned from the board Thursday afternoon, “citing personal reasons.”
The move comes six weeks after the board voted not to renew the contract of Maj. Gen. Cedric Wins, the school’s first Black superintendent.
