Prosecutors said last week that a New Kent County man embezzled millions of dollars from the nonprofit where he worked that helps families of children with brain injuries.

John Hunter Raines, 38, of Providence Forge, was the chief financial officer for the Virginia Birth-Related Neurological Injury Compensation Program. The Chesterfield County-based organization provides compensation to families of infants who received brain or spinal cord injuries during birth. The program is a fund administered by the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission.
