KING WILLIAM, Virginia (May 7, 2024) – The Purina factory team in King William recently delivered $30,000 in donations to two area non-profits. The contributions were distributed through the Purina Trust Fund, recognizing organizations who work to positively impact Purina’s operating communities.
Purina made a $15,000 donation to The CornerStone Community Development Center in Aylett to assist with the expansion of a work area and food storage space. The center provides free food, clothing, and health care to underserved residents of King William, King and Queen, and Essex counties. Purina associates frequently support the local charity donating thousands of dollars’ worth of food, toys, and clothing in the last year alone.
“CornerStone performs a vital role in addressing critical needs where many of our associates live,” said Mackenzie Browning, King William Factory Manager. “Supporting the enhancement of their storage capabilities and workspace will positively affect their ability to serve our community.”
Sheila Iswariah, Executive Director of CornerStone, added, “The grant is a big help towards creating a safe space for volunteers to work in as they sort, store items, and prepare items for distribution.”
The local Purina team also delivered a $15,000 donation to FETCH a Cure in Henrico to support their Pixie’s Pen Pals rescue program. Browning approved of the new partnership stating, “FETCH a Cure’s mission aligns with Purina’s core belief that people are better with pets.”
Through the Pen Pals program, Virginia inmates work in cooperation with professional trainers to learn responsibility, patience, and tolerance while training shelter dogs to find life-long homes.
“This grant allows us to give the dogs a full seven-day period in foster care before they go into correctional facilities,” said FETCH a Cure’s Renai Bowers, Director of Development. “We use the extra time to treat their physical and spiritual needs to ensure they are ready for the journey ahead.”
In the last five years, Purina has contributed more than $150 million to organizations focused on making a difference for pets, people and the planet. To learn more about causes Purina supports, visit purina.com/partnerships.
