Rappahannock Community College’s Rappahannock Institute for Lifelong Learning (RILL) invites you to “go back to school” with a variety of classes, from history to pickleball. The modest tuition fee for classes help support a scholarship for a student at RCC.

Explore the Fairfield Foundation’s interpretive historical site Rosewell, Colonial America’s most magnificent mansion, with co-directors Dave Brown and Thane Harpole. Learn how the site is being sustainably preserved, plans to expand interpretation and access to the site and its collections, examine the lives of enslaved persons, and more. Tuesday, September 24 from 1 pm to 3 pm. Cost is $20.

New to pickleball or already have the basics and ready to take your skills further? RILL offers several beginner and intermediate pickleball classes in Warsaw and Gloucester. Cost is $35 per class. Beginner Pickleball in Warsaw, Wednesdays and Fridays, September 11, 13, 18, and 20; or Gloucester September 18, 20, 25, and 27. Intermediate Pickleball, Warsaw, September 25, 27, October 2, and 4; or Gloucester on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, October 22, 23, 29, and 30. Space is limited so register early.

What really happened to cause the sinking of the Titanic? Explore maritime engineering, ship-building materials then and now, design structure and flaws, and more in “The Sinking of the Titanic,” led by Michael Knapp. Class meets at Rappahannock Westminster-Canterbury in Irvington October 1, 8, and 15 from 10 am to 12 pm. The cost is $35.

In “Think Like an Economist” you’ll explore basic economic concepts like disparate impact versus disparate treatment, the 80/20 rule, Pareto Efficiency, bartering, and more. Class will be held Mondays, September 9, 16, and 23 from 10 am to 12 pm on the Warsaw campus. The cost is $35.

Northumberland County is home to several historic one-room schoolhouses that educated children before the public school system was established. In “One Room Schools in Northumberland County,” you will explore the Shiloh School, Holley Graded School, and the Julius Rosenwald School on Thursday, September 12, 19, and 26 from 2 pm to 4 pm. Cost is $35.

The African-American Experience; Antebellum, Civil War, and Reconstruction;” “Metamorphosis: A Contemporary Look at Aging, Maturity, and Personal Growth;” “The Personal Essay;” “Survey of American Literature;” “Microsoft Word: Tips for Productive Usage;” and “Technology and Land Use Planning” focusing on solar farms, round out the rest of the schedule.
