Richmond and its surrounding counties have been dubbed “sanctuary jurisdictions” by the Department of Homeland Security.
The release said Richmond, Henrico, Hanover, Chesterfield and Dinwiddie obstruct the enforcement of federal immigration laws.
The cities of Charlottesville, Newport News, Alexandria and Portsmouth also made the list of non-compliant jurisdictions.
Hanover County disputed their inclusion on the list in a news release issued on Friday afternoon.
