UPDATE: Route 612 (Bestland Road/Lilly Pond Road) over Dragon Swamp at the Essex County and King and Queen County line has reopened to traffic. Crews have repaired a bridge rail that was damaged by a downed tree. The detour has been lifted.
FREDERICKSBURG – Route 612 (Bestland Road/Lilly Pond Road) over Dragon Swamp is closed at the Essex and King and Queen county line after a tree fell on the bridge rail and damaged it.
The bridge will be closed until further notice for rail repairs.
Motorists are advised to follow the posted detour, which is around 8 miles at its full length:
- Route 607 (Jones Bridge Road/Princes Road)
- Route 617 (Providence Road)
An average of 150 vehicles a day cross the bridge, according to a 2023 Virginia Department of Transportation traffic count. 511Virginia
