FREDERICKSBURG – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) closed Route 634 (Mt. Elba Road) in King and Queen County after severe weather damaged a large pipe and pavement.

Mt. Elba Road will be closed for at least 45 days to allow crews to replace the culvert and restore the roadway over a tributary from the Mattaponi River.

Right now, drivers are being detoured to the following routes:

  • Route 629 (Walkerton Landing Road)
  • Route 633 (Stones Road)

The detour is nearly five miles.

Drivers are encouraged to use the most convenient alternate route depending on their destination.

Message boards are posted to alert drivers to the road closure.

Approximately 470 vehicles a day travel on Mt. Elba Road, according to the most recent VDOT traffic count.
