Christchurch sailors Wylder Smith and Wyatt Lipp are in Kiel, Germany this week competing in the 2026 29er World Championship.
The week of racing takes place in the Baltic Sea, at the Kiel-Schilksee Olympic Sailing Center. The event attracts top youth skiff sailors from around the world.
Kiel offers some of the most dynamic and challenging sailing conditions in Europe with a wide range of weather – from light, tactical races in calm seas to high action with stronger winds and rolling ocean swells.
The 29er is a double-handed, single-trapeze skiff with a self-tacking jib and asymmetric spinnaker.
Wylder will be a senior in the fall. He is the son of Cutter and Stacey Smith of Guildford, CT.
Wyatt will be a junior. He is the son of James and Cathy Lipp of Charleston, SC.
