New campaign finance reports show Virginia Sen. Louise Lucas used $300,000 in campaign funds to contribute to her legal defense fund and the law firm she hired following an FBI raid this year on her businesses in Portsmouth.
Following the raid, Lucas told The Virginian-Pilot she hired Jeffrey Robinson of the Washington, D.C.-based Lewis, Baach, Kaufmann, Middlemiss law firm to represent her in the investigation. Supporters also created a legal defense fundraiser that currently lists $21,000 in donations.
