Richard Bland College is seeing a growing likelihood of achieving independent governance — an outcome it has sought for over a decade — following a new state report that recommends that the General Assembly constitute a new, independent board of visitors for the college.

Richard Bland College, in Prince George County, was established by the state legislature in 1960 as a division of the College of William & Mary. The school was named for a Founding Father who served in the Virginia legislature and the Continental Congress.
