Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal single vehicle crash that occurred Tuesday morning on Tidewater Trail (Route 17) at 8:17 a.m. in Essex County.
A 2005 Sterling dump truck was traveling along the 23,000 block of Route 17 when the truck went off of the right side of the road and struck a ditch. The truck then overturned. The driver of the vehicle, 33 year-old Da’ Jour J.W. Smith, of Middlesex, Va., died at the scene. Smith was not wearing a seatbelt.
The crash remains under investigation.
