The Town of Warsaw is pleased to announce that they, along with Richmond County, have successfully applied for and received an extension of the Enterprise Zone Incentive Program until December 2033. “This program is an integral part of our economic development strategy and has led to many improvements across Town. We’re thankful to the Department of Housing and Community Development staff, Director Horn, and the Governor’s office for believing in our community. This extension will allow us to continue our successful economic development strategies, provide additional employment opportunities, increase commerce, and create a more resilient community” stated Joseph N. Quesenberry, Town Manager.
Within the last five (5) reporting years, the program has deployed $242,854.79 in funds to projects within Richmond County, and $794,415.81 within the Town of Warsaw, for a combined total of $1,037,270.60. Some of these projects include Dairy Queen, Ace Hardware, Healthy Harvest, YMCA, etc. The incentive program is described on the DHCD website as a “… partnership between state and local government that encourages job creation and private investment. VEZ accomplishes this by designating Enterprise Zones throughout the state and providing two grant-based incentives, the Job Creation Grant (JCG) and the Real Property Investment Grant (RPIG), to qualified investors and job creators within those zones, while the locality provides local incentives. If the total investment is less than $5 million, the maximum grant amount is $100,000 in a five consecutive-year period. If the total investment is more than $5 million, the maximum grant amount is $200,000 in a five consecutive-year period.”
The Town Manager’s office, the County Administrator’s office, and the Northern Neck Planning District Commission worked together to submit the successful renewal application. According to current records, Warsaw/Richmond County are the only communities in the former Northern Neck Enterprise Zone that submitted an application for zone renewal. “This showcases Warsaw’s commitment to sustainable growth and economic development. We appreciate our partnership with Richmond County on the application and look forward to working with them on more projects in the future,” said Mayor Randall L. Phelps.
