Virginia Republican Party Chairman Rich Anderson is stepping down to become assistant secretary of the U.S. Air Force at the Pentagon, which he left 16 years ago to pursue local and state politics in Prince William County.
President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he had nominated Anderson for the Air Force job and asked the U.S. Senate to confirm him, along with former Virginia Republican Senate candidate Hung Cao as under-secretary of the U.S. Navy and former Virginia Secretary of Public Safety and Homeland Security Terrance Cole as administrator of drug enforcement.
