With 20 minutes to spare, former state Sen Amanda Chase beat the deadline Thursday night to file petitions in an effort to qualify for the June 17 Republican primary for governor.

Chase completed the first step to get on the ballot, but former Del. Dave LaRock, R-Loudoun, another would-be challenger to Lt Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, found out two hours before Thursday’s 5 p.m. deadline that he was short of the signatures he needed.
