The Virginia Commonwealth University Health System will resume some gender-affirming care for transgender youth under the age of 19, the health system said Tuesday. But it will also work to transfer those patients to outside providers.
VCU Health, which operates pediatric care through the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, will not resume gender-affirming surgeries. And for new patients, the hospital will provide only education, counseling and mental health services.
It is the same strategy the University of Virginia is taking, as government-affiliated health systems have tried to provide care for their patients while abiding by instructions from the attorney general.
