Riders from several motorcycling organizations will be on their bikes the weekend of June 19-20 raising funds for the American Legion’s Veterans and Children’s Foundation in the ninth annual “Virginia Legacy Run.” The riders principally represent the American Legion Riders and Veterans of Foreign Wars Riders, to raise money supporting veterans and have raised $560,000 during the last eight years. The goal for this year is $100,000.
There are expected to be more than 200 motorcycles in formation participating in the ride, which are often escorted by local law enforcement personnel for safety and traffic control. The route for the riders on Friday will be from Colonial Beach through Mineral, Ruckersville, Ruther Glen and returning to Colonial Beach with a couple of stops for fuel and stopping for lunch at Stonewall Harley Davidson, 51 Buck Drive, in Ruckersville from noon to 1:30 p.m. The end of Friday’s ride will be a dinner at the Colonial Beach Eagles, 517 Colonial Avenue. Riders will be on the roads from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
On Saturday, June 20, the bikers will again be on the road at 8 a.m. and riding from Colonial Beach through Kilmarnock, Hayes, Gloucester, Tappahannock, and again ending in Colonial Beach with a couple of stops for fuel. Lunch on Saturday will be at American Legion Post 75 in Gloucester from 12:15-1:50 p.m.
Media are encouraged to photograph the ride while passing through your area, and interviews with some participants can be facilitated during the lunch stops or at the Colonial Beach Eagles building on Friday evening. The riders are also going to begin the ride both days by “Riding the Point” in a parade of motorcycles in Colonial Beach at 8 a.m.
