Virginia legislators plan a comprehensive bill to tackle disparities in care in childbirth and for pregnant women — a “momnibus bill” — House Speaker Don Scott Jr., D-Portsmouth, said Friday during a gathering of Southern legislators focused on Black maternal health.

The bill, a work in progress, will build on General Assembly initiatives setting up a maternal mortality review team and ensuring Medicaid covers doula care, as well as bipartisan, but vetoed, efforts to require training in implicit bias for doctors and other licensed health care providers.
