A Colonial Beach priest who stole money from his church and the town rescue squad agreed to a deal Friday that requires him to serve some jail time but avoid any felony convictions.

Nicholas S. Szobota was convicted Friday in Westmoreland Circuit Court of a misdemeanor charge of embezzlement, court records show. He was ordered to serve a year in jail with nine months suspended on that conviction; Szobota will be allowed to serve his time on weekends starting Feb. 9.
