Staff shortages at Virginia nursing homes mean people who need care can have a challenge — and a wait — before finding a place, a new survey from the facilities’ trade association said.

Some 7% of nursing homes surveyed said they have a hold on new admissions, while an additional 16% said they are turning away more people these days than before the pandemic.

A total of 39% said they maintain a waiting list of people seeking admission, while 44% said they’ve put temporary holds on admissions at least once since June 1.
