Gloucester, Va. – Virginia State Police Investigators continue to actively pursue information in the disappearance and homicide of Laurie Ann Powell, more than three decades after her homicide. Ms. Powell, 18, of Wicomico, Va., was last seen alive around midnight March 9, 1988, in Gloucester County, following an argument with her boyfriend. Powell left her boyfriend’s car and was last seen alive walking along Route 614 in Gloucester County towards Route 17.
Nearly a month later, Powell’s remains were found on April 2, 1988, in the James River near Ragged Island. Powell had been stabbed multiple times. The cause of death was found to be a stab wound to the rear of the neck.
The boyfriend was investigated but never charged. He died in 2016.
State Police remain hopeful that this case will come to a successful resolution and continue to encourage the public to come forward with any information related to this investigation.
