The Virginia State Police recently presented awards to some area Virginia Sheriff’s  Offices and law enforcement officers to recognize their efforts in reducing vehicle thefts and vehicle parts with the HEAT program. Help Eliminate Auto Theft.

Spotsylvania County Sheriff’s Office was the agency winner for departments serving population of more than 100,000, and the New Kent County Sheriff’s Office took top prize for serving a popilation of 20,000 to 100,000.

Also Deputy Stephanie Torrence with the New Kent County Sheriff’s Office was named the individual finalist.

The Virginia State Police HEAT program was established in 1992.
