Virginia’s U.S. Sens. Mark Warner and Tim Kaine are asking the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission to implement standards for beach umbrellas and their anchors.
In 2016 Lottie Michelle Belk, 55, of Chester was fatally injured when struck by a wind-blown beach umbrella in Virginia Beach. She died of penetrating blunt force trauma to the chest, the state medical examiner’s office ruled.
