Former Gov. Doug Wilder on Friday afternoon filed a federal lawsuit against Virginia Commonwealth University President Michael Rao after the school reportedly launched what Wilder called a “malicious” investigation into “allegations of a hostile workplace environment” at the L. Douglas Wilder School of Government and Public Affairs.

In his suit, filed in the U.S. District Court, Wilder alleges that Rao and Suzanne Milton, VCU’S chief audit and compliance executive, “initiated a vague and procedurally deficient investigation” into Wilder’s conduct in March.
