Gov. Glenn Youngkin has asked President Joe Biden for $4.4 billion in federal disaster aid to help Southwest Virginia recover from the damage inflicted on the region by the remnants of Hurricane Helene in late September.

In a letter sent to Biden on Friday and obtained by the Richmond Times-Dispatch, Youngkin detailed damage to 36 localities in Southwest Virginia, including $2.1 billion in economic damage, including lost revenue, unemployment and “future loss of investment.”
