Gov. Glenn Youngkin has plenty of reasons why he says Virginia will not participate in a new free program that the IRS is offering to taxpayers to file their tax returns for this year.
Youngkin, in a letter to Democrats in Virginia’s congressional delegation who have urged him to let the state participate in the IRS Direct File program, cited legal issues, including the need for General Assembly approval and a letter of opposition to the federal program that a dozen Republican attorneys general, including Virginia’s Jason Miyares, sent to U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen.
