FREDERICKSBURG – Route 636 (Havelock Road) in Richmond County will close to through traffic for a culvert replacement project starting Wednesday, Sept. 17.
Havelock Road over Scates Mill Stream will be closed for approximately six months to
install a 6-foot by 8-foot concrete culvert.
The new box culvert measures 48 feet in length, longer than a standard school bus.
Signs will guide motorists along the recommended 5-mile detour route:
- County Bridge Road
- Newland Road

Drivers are encouraged to use the most convenient alternate route depending on their destination.
Access to residential driveways along Havelock Road will be maintained at all times.
Weather permitting, all work is expected to be complete by spring 2026.
