Virginia State Police is investigating a fatal single vehicle crash that occurred Thursday (Oct. 23, 2025) at 3:45 a.m. on Route 17 in Gloucester County.
A 2000 Chevrolet Blazer was heading northbound on Route 17, north of the intersection with T.C. Walker Road, when the Blazer ran off of the left side of the road and struck a tree in the median. The vehicle then caught fire.
The driver of the Blazer, Tyler M. Simmons, 24, of Hayes, Va., was partially ejected and suffered serious injuries. Simmons was transported to an area hospital where he recently succumbed to those injuries. Simmons was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
