FREDERICKSBURG – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has updated the construction schedule for a project to replace a recreational dock at the end of Route 638 (Jones Creek Road) on the Rappahannock River in Richmond County.
Construction on the new dock was scheduled to begin in July 2026, with opening anticipated in September 2026. VDOT will announce new dates for construction to begin.
“This remains an active and funded project, with completed designs, and we are eager to build and restore this landing for recreational use,” said VDOT Northern Neck Resident Engineer David Beale, P.E. “We appreciate the community’s patience as we finalize preparations to re-establish public access to the river from Jones Creek Road.”
The existing dock was built in 1932. It closed in July 2023 after an underwater inspection determined it needed to be closed for public safety until a replacement dock could be built.
The new dock will be similar in size to the existing dock, with a kayak launch added on the downstream side.
