FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Route 3 travelers can expect brief daytime delays crossing the Rappahannock River between Lancaster and Middlesex counties in late September and October as crews begin a scheduled annual bridge inspection.
The inspection of the Robert O. Norris, Jr., Bridge will begin on Monday, Sept. 23. Between 9 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. on weekdays, through Friday, Oct. 25, a portion of Route 3 on the bridge will be reduced to a single travel lane.
Automated flagging devices will direct traffic through the work zone. Flagging crew members operate the devices, which can be rapidly adjusted to respond to congestion or incidents on the bridge.
Lane closures have been scheduled weather permitting. Message boards at both bridge approaches will alert travelers to the upcoming inspection work zone.
