Fire destroyed a pre-Civil War church early Tuesday morning at Oak Grove in Westmoreland County.
Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Chief Michael Irvine reported that the entire sanctuary of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church was destroyed and was contained to that area. Irvine said an early estimate of damage to be around one and quarter million dollars.
He also stated that Virginia State Police Arson Investigators were called to the scene.
Mutual aide was received from all of Westmoreland County, the Naval fire units from Dahlgren, Northumberland County and St. Mary’s County, Maryland.
