Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., heads into his campaign for re-election with $7.7 million in the bank and a crowded field of Republican candidates trailing in the distance.

Kaine raised almost $1.2 million in the final quarter of last year, ending on Dec. 31, as he seeks a third term in the U.S. Senate. That is about the same amount that Republican front runner Hung Cao, who announced in July, has collected in his campaign.
