Sen. Mark Warner, D-Va., isn’t ready to fall in line behind other Democrats who rallied on Monday in support of President Joe Biden’s intensifying push to save his candidacy for reelection in a looming rematch with former President Donald Trump.
Earlier in the day, Biden pushed back hard against Warner and other Democrats who want him to reconsider his candidacy after a disastrous debate with Trump almost two weeks ago that ignited fierce concerns about his health and mental ability to win the election and serve four more years as president.
Biden’s call for unity was echoed by Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., who said in a Richmond appearance on Monday that he will “completely respect” Biden’s decision and that he will support the president if he stays in the race.
