In a brief news release on Monday afternoon, the Richmond City Sheriff announced a person died at the jail on Sunday evening.
The release did not include a name for the detainee. The cause of death has not been released, either.
The jail is currently being sued by the families of several men who died at the jail in 2022 and 2023. It is also under a corrective action plan mandated by the agency that oversees Virginia jails.
