Rappahannock Community College’s Rappahannock Institute for Lifelong Learning (RILL) has space available in these May classes: “Virginia in the Eighteenth Century,” “Wallace Stegner on Memory and Aging,” and “The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln.”

Robert Teagle, Executive Director at the Foundation for Historic Christ Church in Weems examines life in 18th-century Virginia, including the rise of the gentry class, the tobacco economy, slavery and the transatlantic slave trade, demographic changes and westward migration, women and family, architecture, and more. From its consolidation as a slave society as the century opened to its leading role in the creation of a new nation, learn about the profound transformations that shaped Virginia.

This course is $35 and will be held at Historic Christ Church and Museum’s Bayne Center in Weems on May 1, 8, and 15 from 10 am to 12 pm.

Wallace Stegner on Memory & Aging” discusses three of Stegner’s novels, The Spectator Bird, Angle of Repose, and Recapitulation. Exploration of memory and aging through three remarkable main characters forms the discussion led by long-time RILL instructor Gail Kenna. This course is $40 and will be held on Rappahannock Community College’s Kilmarnock center May 2, 9, 16, and 23 from 1 pm to 3 pm.

John Wilkes Booth and others original plans were to kidnap President Abraham Lincoln but plan shifted to assassination. “The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln and the Military Trial of the Lincoln Assassination Conspirators” looks at the conspiracy behind the assassination, the pursuit and capture of the conspirators, their incarceration, and trial by military tribunal. The controversial trial was extensive, legally complex, and frequently misunderstood. Learn more on May 29, June 5, and June 12 from 10 am to 12 pm at RCC’s Glenns campus. The cost is $35.

Advance registration and tuition payment is required for each class. RW-C residents receive a 50% discount; Blue Ridge Bank Golden Advantage members receive a 15% discount.
