FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has closed Route 600 (Neenah Road) over Marshall Creek in Westmoreland County for motorist safety.

During a routine inspection of a culvert, crews discovered significant erosion and a depression in the road.

Once high water recedes from the culvert, crews will be able to further evaluate the extent of the damage and determine repair plans.

Motorists should follow signs posted along the recommended detour:

  • Route 600 (Neenah Road)
  • Route 202 (Cople Highway)
  • Route 3 (Kings Highway)
  • Route 621 (Nomini Grove Road)

The detour route is approximately 10 miles long.

Road barricades and signs are posted to direct travelers around the closure.

An average of 389 vehicles a day cross over Marshall Creek on Neenah Road, according to a VDOT traffic count.

VDOT will announce an estimated timeline to reopen the road to traffic once the emergency repair project schedule is finalized.
