Democrats who lead the Senate Education and Health Committee challenged state Superintendent Lisa Coons on Thursday about their concerns over the Virginia Department of Education, which she runs.
The legislature faces a Feb. 10 deadline to confirm Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s appointment of Coons or her appointment will expire, according to the state constitution.
