The Tappahannock Police Department responded to an altercation Thursday night around 9:45 at the Foxchase Apartments on Marsh Street in Tappahannock. 19 year old Gene Frederick Cauthorne III of Tappahannock was severely injured and transported to VCU/Tappahannock Hospital, where he later died of his injuries. 31 year old Tyrone Ware, Jr. of Caret, was identified as a suspect and was later apprehended and charged with Malicious Wounding. Ware is currently in custody at the Middle Peninsula Regional Jail in Saluda. Details of the altercation are still under investigation and further charges are pending. Tappahannock Police Department was assisted by the Essex County Sheriff’s Office, Virginia State Police, King and Queen Sheriff’s Office and Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.
