Cornel West is back on the presidential ballot in Virginia, despite a new state law that had appeared to disqualify a dozen of his electors if he won his longshot bid for the White House.
The Department of Elections had informed West’s campaign on Aug. 27 that 12 of the nominated electors had submitted the wrong form for “signed and notarized elector oaths” under a state law that took effect on July 1.
The department reversed itself last week after West’s campaign protested that each of the notarized statements had been executed earlier this year, before the law took effect, and that the state had not informed the campaign that a new form would be required.
