Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares and 41 other attorneys general across the U.S. are suing Meta, the company that owns Facebook and Instagram, alleging that it knowingly created and used harmful features on its social media platforms that are designed to be addictive for teenagers and children.

At a news conference at the Attorney General’s Office in Richmond on Tuesday afternoon, Miyares called the features “behavioral cocaine.” Miyares and the other attorneys general said that Meta was well aware of the harmful and addictive effects of the platform.
